&gt;I pulled the truck in the drive way after a 15 mile drive and about an hour later I noticed a spot of oil about 5 inches (round) directly under were the tranny meets the oil pan. It looks like it's coming from above the tranny. I changed the oil yesterday but had no leaks last night. Could it be an overflow?? Has anyone else had anly leaks on an 03. <br>Thanks for the help

 

Calvin,<br> How much oil did you use? I have read that the 24v engines takes 11qts. More than that can could cause some oil to puke out the vent tube.<br><br>MikeyB

 

Mine did the exact same thing after I changed my oil. It's coming from a rubber tube on the drivers side underneath...need to poke your head under there, it just looks like it's coming from the tranny because it flies onto it when driving. Anyway, mine quit after a couple days. I guess it's some kind of over flow (3 gallons exactly, counting filter). I've got 3000 miles on since I've changed the oil and have not had any problems or leaks.<br> Of course, yours could be a different problem, but it sounds just like what happened w/ me. (hope all that makes sense) <br>

 

I used 3 gallons total as always and as indicated by the manual, but next time I'm going to use 2 1/2. 3 gallons seem to be too much because it's always reading above the max line.<br>Hey PADZZ, could the tube you're talking about be coming from the fuel/water separator?? <br>I hope this is just an overflow issue.<br>Thanks

 

Well, it was definetely new oil....where ever that would have come from. ???

 

It probably came from the breather tube. When the oil is warmed up and splashed around by piston rod action, the pressure in the crankcase increases, and the oil expands like any other material being heated up; the oil breather tube allows excess to bleed out. If you fill the oil level to the &quot;full&quot; capacity at cold (including the new filter), then go drive on the highway 20 - 30 minutes, you will undoubtedly get some overflow breath out until the amount in the crankcase no longer achieves excess volume/pressure under normal operation. I would keep a vigil on it to see if it continues, and if not you are o.k., but if it does then take it to the shop for warranty repair. Mine is due for its first change in a few weeks, but I have noticed none coming out from it and the oil is between the add and full marks staying steady.

 

Here is what I have done for the last ten years and avoided the overflow problem. I put in 11 quarts, then the next day or the first time I get the engine good and hot I'll add oil to a hot engine and bring it up to the line.<br><br>My 2 cents, but I've never had oil dump out the breather. I've also nevr gotten the full amount that the book calls for. I'd rather be down a pint then have it running out. After all, if it holds 3 gallons a pint low is nothing. Again, just my 2centovos.

 

I think that would be "dos centavos" - let's get it right ok? Especially since our trucks are made in Mexico where, I suppose, it is OK to drop engine oil on the road. I hate to rant but there is a lot of talk about this and how **** hard would it be to get such a common thing corrected? If 12 qts = road/engine mess then find a way to contain it Ma Mopar or explain the proper fill techniques. These type of things make me nuts(ier)
