Intake Grid Heater

code P2609 -- possible relays or bad grid heater element? Is the grid heater covered under the Cummins engine warranty? I am sure the relays are not.

When did the check engine light come on? After you started the truck? Sometimes if you start the truck before the wait to start light goes out it can throw a code for the grid heater which is basically just a low voltage trouble code. From starting the truck while the gird heater is on you draw too much voltage cause a low voltage trouble.

There is no check engine light,I did the key on-off thing and it showed. It also comes up on my scanner. I plug the truck in now,so the wait to start light goes out fairly quick.

Had the same code come up on mine back in October, long story short trips to the dealer, a few computer reflashes, and a new intake heater, no fix. The 4th and final trip the tech told me that they recieved a new flash that morning, no problem since.

Mine started on the first cool morning in the fall that the intake heater needed to come on. Turn the key, heater light came on for a few seconds, light goes out, start the truck (with no issues, started and ran fine) CEL came on when the truck was started, happened 3 times before the last ecm flash, been fine since.
