My 06 makes some kind of knocking noise that I don't know what it is. The truck runs great and I am going to not worry about it till it gives me greif. Just think. If these 3rd gens were as noise as the older ones. You wouldn't here all these little weird noises. Just put her in gear and give her he!!.

I agree, if she's running good and not smoking or adding diesel to the crankcase...run 'er.
When I first got this thing it made all sorts of knocks and ticks....it used to bother me, but I am much happier just to drive it and forget it.
The only "diesel" repair I have had is the intank lift pump replacement done when the original LP failed.

My '05 is MUCH quieter than my old '97 12v, but a friend of mine with a 04.5, his is way louder than my '05, not as loud as a 12 valve, but still loud, but his has 60k + miles on it, and im sittin at 37k....

Mine has the same "tick" coming from the front half of the engine. I noticed it after 6500 miles. I thought it might be a lifter or my engine fixing to through a rod? What is going on with this TICKING every one complains about! I spent BIG money on my truck and be damned if it starts a noise and the dealer says it's normal!

It is normal 38,800 miles and it has been doing this since day one. I only hear it when the radio is off and the a/c blower on low.

I just bought my truck last Saturday with 27,500 miles on it. Then yesterday I noticed this ticking noise you are all talking about, but mine is only noticable at idle. I cant pinpoint quite where it is coming from although it does seem to come more from the wheel wells and front end. My buddys 3500 does not have any ticking sound like this at all, and hes got twice as many miles on his.
