Info: dealer & lubing front Double Cardan(?) joint info
Took my truck into dealer for normal oil/filter/lube service and wondered if the dealer lubbed the front joint as specified. Didn't what to irritate the tech so thought of a way to find out. Asked the service writer if the lube tech could show me where the lube point was as I couldn't find it. Sure no problem. Called me back and tech looked dumbfounded when I asked where the lube point was. I showed him where I "thought"" it was and then was escorted back to the waiting area. Few minutes later he called me back showed me the point and quietly thanked me for asking about it as he didn't know they were there and had never lubed one before. I just played dumb and thanked him for finding it and showing me where it was. Neat way to not embarasse someone but to also make sure they lube the joint as specified. Byt he way it is hard to find but is on the front side of the joint at least on my 07 truck. Birroed inside the joint also. It was a very bright shinny point though so with a good light it will show up.

Took mine in to have it done also with other things, checked when I got home and sure enough there was not a drop of grease anywhere near that area. I am sure people having their oil changed at garages, lub shops and even dealers are more than likely not having this U joint greased. Doing it myself now however it is a PITA.

DTR's 'Go to Guy'
^ You say that assuming that they pay attention to stuff like that, or read for that matter! LOL I'm not saying that they are all that bad, but I can tell you a few that are!

FYI- It's a ball and socket, it's not a U-joint. It's the lube point for the ball and socket that keep those two u-joints lined up. The assembly (2 U-joints and 1 ball and socket) is called a Double Cardan.
...and don't get me started on how inept most service techs are...Dodge or otherwise.
