48 re does not circulate in park. If you don't belive this see if you can flush your trans in park. You can't, fluid does not move through cooler lines under pressure unless in N.(or a drive gear of course)

Okay, so if I am idling my truck, I should put it in N and then put the parking break on? Do this in cold temps and especially in warmer temps? The high idle DOES work in Park, but this is bad to use right? Lots of information on here, will someone summarize everything...?

Basiclly idling in park for limited times is fine. Extended warm up periods or running for heat while sleeping/loading or whatever is better done in neutral. This is the first post I have seen where someone claimed real damage was done by idling in park. I am curious to know the circumstances underwhich that damage occured. Was it for 100's of hours, very hot, cold etc?

Yep, you're right. I played with it again last night and it worked.

IIRC, a TX truck, the batterie(s) died on the truck and instead of fixing it he let it idle on job site for about 10 hrs. The truck had 40k on it at the time and no issues until then. The originator of the pics was familiar with the truck and was very sure the long idle is what did it. The rest of the trans was good bit it messed up everything from the pump out.

All I can say is WOW!! A lot of good info.

With all of the warnings that are in my owners manual, one would think that dodge would put a warning about high idling.

DC probably doesn't want to tell you to put it in neutral because if it slips in D or R and the truck takes off and kills someone...Guess who the lawyers will go after????
