Ok...I dont wana sound like an idiot, but my cummins just rolled past 100k and no problems. BUT, there is this relentless "rattle" under light acceleration, kinda goes away under heavy throttle. Almost sounds like a seal is lose or smthin. I know its a shot in the dark here but anyone else exerience this? Just to be clear..its more than the engine "diesel rattle"..its smthin more

3rd gens, especially '05.5 and newer are know for this rattle. It sounds like timing knock on a gasser and it occurs at light to moderate throttle. Mine has done it since new (now at 122K miles) and many others have noticed the same annoying yet common issues......

My vote goes to timing knock. My 04.5 did it. Once I noticed it, it was hard to ignore.

I have 365,000 miles on mine and even to this day, I think the motor is falling apart when I walk around it and it is running.

Transmission.
3 u joints on the pinion.
Front pinion seal twice
Rear pinion seal once
Carrier bearing
Fluid changes 50,000 to 75,000

I would have to go and get the maintence record for the engine.
