I have a vp44 issue

I have an 03 5.9 and I've been having some camshaft position sensor codes thrown at me. And I've noticed that my truck has been really sluggish and hard to crank when up to the normal running temp. Could the vp44 be the issue I'm having. Or could it be something that I'm looking over?

You are making the classic error of making wild *** guesses without any data. You may not have a VP44. You likely have a CP3. I also believe your symptoms you describe are unlikely to be a singular fault. There is no substitute to proper troubleshooting principles. It is very necessary to acquire as much pertinent data as possible. Otherwise, you will be shot-gunning parts, which is never a good idea and expensive to boot, as you will be depending on only luck.

In order to acquire the data needed, the mechanic must have access to the required tools and sensors. Most individuals and shops do not have them. Locate a shop that has all the tools and test fixtures and bring the truck to them. It is in the end, much less expensive. You are welcome to review the history of all the disaster stories of folks that did not follow this advice right here on this forum.

As has less than gracefully been pointed out, in 2003 the engine was switched to a Common Rail design, which got rid of the VP44 Injection pump and introduced the CP3, which in essence is a dumb he man jock pump which has proven to be very reliable.

This means the electronics though have been moved elsewhere, namely the Injectors....... I am not all that familiar with the newer stuff, so I would hope pretty quickly some of the space shuttle engineers will hop in and bring you up to speed.

BTW, Welcome to our little portion of the world!
