I got a new 06!!!!!
Hey guys I am new to this forum , I have a 1st gen in my old chevy but I just got a new 06 4x4 quad cab. Last night I thought I would take out the silencer ring in the intake. I think I took out the right stuff. I gutted the plastic intermitent pipe between the turbo and the air filter and I took out the looverd thing in the lower boot just infont of the turbo. did I take out the right stuff? I can here a little more turbo whine
. Is there any other free or cheep tricks I can do aside from a box? One more thing, is there a way to reset the check engine lite with out a trip to the dealer? I had the bright idea I would look for a plug that I could add a swithch to for anti theft reasons, I tryed the one on the front injection pump, well she started up just fine when I tyed to unplug it to see if it was one that would keep it from starting. I did manage to tripe the check engine light for my trouble. I would prefer to not have to explain what I was doing to the dealer, I dont want to say it just came on though ether and have them wanting to replace parts thinking that they are bad. Thanks in advance for any help.

Congrats on a wise purchasing decision!
Now, put that white plastic fin thing back into the pre-turbo boot; it smooths the airflow into the turbo, no benefit to removing it. The silencer ring is directly in front of the impeller blades, held on by a stubborn snap ring (be patient).
Your best 1st mod would probably the factory service manual so you don't unintentionally set any more codes.
Read the threads, soak up the info & wait til there's less warranty to waste before the major bombing. Use the time to mod your rig with things that will help later, like gauges, intake & exhaust.

I set a code on my Honda, and the dealer said to drive it for a few hundred miles and it shoud reset itself...it did. This might also work for your truck?
Good luck and congrats on your new truck!

Thanks guys, I went for a 150 mile drive this morning and it is off now, I also took out the tone ring thing this morning, much better! how is you guys fuel milage, I am getting 16-16.5 mostly highway, and 14-15 in town unloaded, and 3.73 gears, seems a little low, will it go up once I brake it in I have about 1k on her now...
The tone ring is behind the damper pulley. What you took off was the silencer ring on the throat of the turbo.
I have exactly 1100 miles (well give or take a couple) and my fuel mileage is in my signature. It usually consists of combined city and highway.
