:-) I am having the Jake Brake added to my '06.

This thread is nothing more than me sharing my good news with people who care. I am going to have the Jake Brake (factory option) added to my truck. My dad's '06 MegaCab short box dually came in today and it has the brake. Wow! I can't resist or be out done.

I will report back next week with results. I am pretty pumped about it.

How much $$ for parts and labor? I've been considering one.

Not sure. I dropped my truck off at lunch today. They are hoping to have it ready by lunch tomorrow. My mechanic there wants to squeeze me in. I *think* they said around 2 grr for the total price but I can't remember. They are going to add it on the total cost of the truck so I can spread it out over the loan.

I will find out when I pick it up. Until then, I will be stuck in my dad's ride which is exactly the same as mine but red and has 3.73's with power rear window. Poor, pitiful me.

2k seems a little high. I was quoted $1535.00 for mine. I decided to wait, because I didn't want to include it in the price of the truck. If your financing that e- brake is going to cost you even more unless you got 0% interest.

While I agree it appears it will cost me more to include it in the loan, I trade every 2 - 3 years. Closer to 3 years these days. Bascially, it is close enough for me to say screw it and just handle it that way. This is my company truck I use for work anyway.

Now that you mention it, mabye they quoted around 1700 but I will get the total tomorrow when I pick her up for the last time.

I noticed that my dad's '06 with Jake Brake transmission gears down as I slow when the Jake Brake is enabled. Cool.

My '06 with no jake brake does not do this. I can't wait to get my truck back. :-)

That's pretty expensive for a brake....you can replace a lot of brake pads for that much money........

That is true. But gong down 5% inclines here in the mountains can be a touch scary if you ride your brakes all the way down.

what wizkid said....it'a all about the safety factor!

I've gone down 7% grades with 3-5k and never had to touch the brakes.

Picked the truck up after lunch. Everything seems fine except I may notice a slight fluttering noise on the driver side. I am convinced it is my head playing tricks on me but I am a bit paranoid when any work is done to my truck (including my own). I am convinced my dad's truck is a little stronger and quiter than mine. Hence the reason I don't here the exact same soudns in his truck.

It was so much nicer when I had my '03 chiped and could suck everyone's paint off. Being a mere equal again brings up speed issues for me.

Performance: It performs exactly like my dad's JB in his '06 MC DRW. One of my badges had a small chip in it, I didn't care but the dealership ordered a new kit to replace them for me. I still have the old badges and I may slap them on this weekend but maybe I should wait and just get the new ones on Monday.

I am stoked and my wife doesn't want to go driving around. We do have a tornado warning in effect until late tonight. I am dieing to drive it more than what I have. :-)

Install looks better than my dad's factory job. Ok, I admit, they zip tied the calbe to the shifter column and it looks way cleaner that way. I will be pulling ~23k lb. next week up and down some huge inclines. I will report back then.

Price: right at $1800...worth every penny.

Fluttering noise is the newly added vac pump....

I've installed about a dozen brakes so far. We are just over $1600 out the door installed.
