hydro push for hub assembly removal

removing hub assembly (pass side) and bent steel with the power steering assist on loose bolt at back of hub collar. We are not new to mechanics but
not ready to heat this yet since it is the race seat.

what would be your next step? my hubby is a husky one and alternately pounding on one bolt ear then the other, refused to break the seal to the drive. time to replace the u joint and bearings before winter.....

searching forums and tips dead ends..

Take a deep socket put on the bolt, screw bolt in a few turns. Then turn steering wheel with engine running until socket contacts axle housing. Then continue to turn wheel using the force of steering gear box to push on bolt and driving the hub bearing loose from the knuckle. This is what I use but any deep socket 15mm impact prefered will work. If you tried that already then I guess I'm no help. Corrosion on vehicles in New York I remember well, I lived there once, I decided to move west during a blizzard.

Thanks Big Iron! never thought to look on utube. I like the socket set up, we just use steel after breaking too many sockets on tractors, now 'made in china' ones won't hold up)

much appreciated, will get to it tomorrow (after bike ride, NY November might hit 73 F woo hoo) thank you. gotta love DTR

I find that an air hammer works better at loosening the corroded parts way better than a BFH does.....

have two levels of air tools, never thought about that either. if it wasn't huge equipment, we use hand tools. way we grew up I guess....

mountain man hubby can still take a truck tire off the rim by hand in less than five minutes....grew up in a junk yard. yeah, no airtools needed.

ok, off to try today. hate having two wasted days on stubborn parts. to you all for the help.

I learned early in life to treat those truck tires with respect, be safe.

remember use a lot of never seize on the new hub and bolts and emery cloth the bore to clean it up ,that will make it alot easier for the next person to work on it.

I picked up some sacrificial hub bolts for doing those. The bolts do get beat up in the process and if I don't have to worry about reusing them, I can use a bit more force to get the job done quicker. I have also found the power steering method far superior to hammering. Get some penetrating oil in there too.
