Hub Bearings - Which Ones to Get?
Hub Bearings - Which Ones to Get?
Need to replace axle u-joints on my truck. Want to have spare set of hub bearings incase the old ones don't come out easy. Advance has two choices - a bearing made by NTP for $192 or a bearing made by National for $240. Is there any real difference? I ordered two of the cheaper ones.
Also, at 115K miles, should I swap out the bearings even if they come out undamaged?

I just did u-joints on an 07 3500 with 80k on the clock. The wheel hubs were seized in the knuckle and were beyond saving. Make sure you clean the knuckle completely and use a heavenly amount of never seize on the knuckle and hub on the install. I bought an air hammer adapter that fits over the head of the hub retaining bolts, it helps to drive out the hubs. I snapped it and had to weld it back together to finish the job. If you have the bearings anyway then I would use a slide hammer to remove the old hubs.
Good luck,
Tim
