How much pressure to flush transmission
How much pressure to flush transmission
What kind of pressure does the dealer's flush machine run at. More than the trani pump I assume. I'm doing the filter and a flush. I have it in my mind that I want to do it as best as possible.
I think I'm going to drop the line's up front by the radiator like the dealer does. I think it would be better to flush through the cooler instead of just letting it drain. Would one of those pump's you hook to a drill pump to fast. Will the trani pump it that far on it's own. I was just going to use some buckett's and hose's, and maybe a pump.
What do you guy's think. Good idea , or bad.

Personally, the last time I did it I just removed the pan and then loosened the VB bolts and let it drain for about an hour. Ended up putting 11 out of 12 quarts back in the tranny. I've heard bad things about having the tranny flushed. Pushes stuff in places it ain't supposed to go.
Trans flushs are the best thing to ever happen to a auto trans since its invention.Sold and handled literaly several thousand flushs.Leave the pan and filter alone until 60k(my CARS I change filter at 90k) and let a shop flush it while you wait etc.Chezz its less the $175 depening on shop etc.Takes a hour.Be darn if I'd mess with it in the back yard. Its a LOT of fliud to contain and dispose of.
anybody know how much atf 4 I should have on hand if I take it to a shop to get it doen? shop does ot cary it I will bring my own..... I am planning on doing the transfer case at the same time, how many cases should I bring? what does it hold manual lists it somewhere I am sure but to flush it I thought I would need more than its capacity.
Well I must say....I agree with Hounddog on this one! I pulled my pan at 26K just to verify no debris and that the bands were adjusted correctly (bought it used). I'm going in today for my 90K flush, diff, tire rotate, fuel filter, trans case service, wash and detail.
Well I've got over 100,000 on it, and it has been flushed at the dealer twice. I think it's time to change the filter. I'm also putting on a deep pan. Truth is, with putting out money for the pan and fluid,,,,I'm broke, and it really need's done, so I'm going to do it myself.

I have been changing mine every 15k. I haven't "flushed", but I drop the pan and change the filter, then reinstall pan......add back new ATF +4. It is easier now with the Mag-Hytec DD pan. I think I replaced 9 quarts. Buy em by the gallon jug at dealer.
Any problem with doing it that way, instead of flushing?

No problem doing it that way but really a waste of filters and time.If worked HARD a flush with the proper fliud at 15k is plenty and eay work or normakl non towing every 30 is more then enough. We did do service trucks, plumbers, contractors NOT OWNER owned rigs but fleets every 15k.one of the issues on pulling pan all the time was leaks.Sooner or later it was going to be a comeback/recheck.Todays filtwers really are good for MANY thousands of miles.Fixing to do the filter on our 2000 Merc.Gran Marquis for first time at 90k.Its been FLUSHED twice with Amsoil syn Atf.Did HUNDEREDS of customers same way and it was the ONLY time(flushing)I ever had comments about HOW much smoother it shifted and lock up judder gone etc.I NEVER heard that with a filter and 4 qt top off.Mail Jeeps the fliud would be BLACK as coal oil and a drain and refill did NOTHING.But a flush sure did.Did them every 15k also.Owners of fleets LOVED us as their trans failure was GREATLY reduced. We had TWO machines and they were in use several times a day enough so we wore the fittings out several times a year.
I like this idea of doing the flush at home but I have a few questions.
1. Can the "hot" line from the tranny be disonnected at the front of the truck and then new fluid poured down the dipstick tube? If this idea works it would be a good idea to compare quantity of fluid out vs. quantity of fluid in. Anyone ever done this?
2. Does the fluid start in the pan then get pumped through the tranny and then out to the radiator and then back to the pan? Or does the fluid follow a different route?
3. BigBlue did you drain the torque converter seperately or did loosening the VB siphon it out or neither?
Thanks.

I`m getting ready to change mine at 20K. I got the deep mag-hytec pan and two 2-1/2 gallon jugs of amsoil. I was goin to try it like it says on the amsoil site. After changing pan and filter, fill the pan up, disconnect line from cooler and let it pump out(engine on) while pouring it back in at about the same rate.
