FWIW my 06 never used a drop of oil between 5k oil changes. And its apples to oranges but when I switched oil brands ona 12v I ended up with bad consumption went back to what she was used to and all went back to
normal.

Now as for how long before checking it I have noticed through OCD close inspection that it would take a good hour maybe longer before it leveled out at a "true" level especially in colder weather.

My '03 just turned 317k miles today. Because I'm from the old school AND I have a crap ton of new oil.......I still change mine every 3k miles. Now, with my fuel mods I can completely ruin an oil change relatively quickly, but even at 3k mile change intervals I never have to add any. I do have a couple small leaks but they don't add up to a tablespoon between changes.

I'm sure I'll catch some mess about my change intervals but it's my preference. I'm sure that if I drove the truck very conservatively that I could no doubt go 10k miles before changes.....but, like the old saying goes "You gotta pay to play!!!!!!"
