How much hp can stock trans. take

How much horse power can my stock transmission take before it goes. It's a 6 speed on a 03. Don't want to start doing all these mods and find out I needed a stronger transmission.

Wouldnt worry about the transmission, the stock clutch will be the first thing to go.... only mod I had was a smarty on level 5 lasted one sled pull and it was cooked!(66,000 miles)

If you don't lug the motor (below 1500rpm) the go full throttle, I'd say you are safe with a Smarty on medium settings.

Drop the rpm below 1500 then give it full throttle and that clutch will slip easily especially if you are towing.

I would hold on to the 5" exhaust and get a good clutch, approx $ 750

I don't know much about the NV5600 6 Speed. I had an 2005.5 with the g-56I just sold. I had a dual disc valair clutch in it and I was pushing alittle over 500 hp. Never had a problem at all.

HP and Torque levels are not really the deciding facters. It's use. One or two sled pulls, or half a dozen drag strip runs and it's done. Hook it up to 15K# and drive across the Rockies a few times will really beat it up. But it will last for years on the street if driven right.

Thanks for the replies. Shure am glad I always drive sticks. Been reading about guys having automatics and being told that 60 extra hp was all they would take.

Depends I guess. I never use all my horsepower anyway. How many of us have our foot mashed to the floor?
