How many Air filters do you have to carry
One change is to remove the whole plastic air dam inside of the wheel well. Problem with this fix is that it will then leave a huge hole inside of the fender which will lead to other debris clogging the inside of it and the corroding the fender. This is why the dealership will not allow this to happen.
Install a cold air intake as other have done IE a Air raid system, AFE or other such type. Problem is DC will void the warrenty on the engine and Emmision controls. Because it has varied the air intake system betond factory spec.
Install a BHAF same as above with the warrenty issue.
My problem is that the truck has had many issues with it since new. And I have been told to be carefull what I do to my truck by DC. They have stated that if I modify any component on my truck to try to overcome what is wrong, then they will void the warrenty for that entire system.
Now me being me I haven't got the money to be pouring into this truck to be fixing things that are U/S,during the warrenty time nor do I have the will power or even feel the need to be fixing a vehicle that really shouldnt be broke. Then their is the fact that the truck is still under warrenty and therfore it should be fixed.
Alot of the problems that effect these trucks do so in batch numbers. The fact that not everyone has the same problem is due to differences in manufacture not the actual design. I remember when I was having Injector problem's, I was told oh no it is all in your head. Suppose to sound like that. This is from the dealership, few guys areound here and then DC. The Cummins mechanic and people whom had no real intrest other then get it fixed beg to differ. Needless to say the injectors were shot as was the LP, rear end, intake, axle seals etc. The day my truck comes off warrenty the work will be done to correct any problems that are still present out of my pocket. Untill then I will try to persuade DC to properly fix the faults that are on my truck due to improper installation, quality inspection etc.
If you or any one else has a problem with getting things fixed that are broken with in the warrenty guide lines then so be it. That is your choice. My choice is to work with DC to try to fix any and all faults on my truck before they become complete failures.
I am going to say this. I love my truck, I hate the fact that it is broke alot of the times due to improper install or manufacture. What I hate even more is when others here and else where say fix it your self. When really I cant due to limitations with in warrenty.
Cheers all off to change some tires around on a VW

More Help
Of course you could always take off that plastic cover on the passenger side that covers the condenser and intercooler. This is an air dam that pushes all the air into the wheel well and intake. if you take this off, less air will be forced into that space. It will help a little. I agree with most and if you want far better protection, maybe get a cone filter or something for the winter, not much less will keep the snow out. I like using the air aid kit cause it uses the bottom half of the intake however is a cone design. The cold air still gets to it, but if that part plugs with snow, it pulls air from the top of the engine compartment. I've had Zero problems up here in Rhode island (I know it's not alaska or Canada) but It's worked for me. May want to give it a try.
And yes the dealers are tricky. Mine saw I had a intake, exhaust, gauges everything and asked me when I was putting a chip on it
I was like not untill warrenty is up, he said if you treat it fairly it'll be fine, and they'll warrenty it (the guy had an almost identical truck) so he says the chip is good. Find a good dealer. No truck is perfect at everything, you have to give and take.

Guys, Yes, the airbox on a Dodge is a bit of finicky little thing but the air filter on a Ferd takes 2 people and an hour to change if one is a experienced mechanic with tools. The Ferd plugs up and you are stopped until it melts enough to continue which an hour of idling typically will do enough to limp somewhere. The GM's air filter plugs much easier from my experience and the fuel seems to freeze up at -20 and don't think of trying to start it unless its been plugged in for hours. We have a pretty reliable winter truck that has problems that all the minds on this site can probably figure out how to remedy pretty cheaply as I have seen. If you don't want to get an aftermarket air intake for winter. put a 90 degree piece of air pipe, from homedepot, a truck stop, or your local hardware store. mount it in the bottom of the air box facing backwards or towards the engine or even the coolers with self tapping screws. In summer face it forward. Put a piece of anything over the stock hole with the same self tapping screws. Cost Elbow $2.99 to 7.99 screws $0.99 . If you want pull out the plastic plate on the passenger side as described above. Problem fixed in one hour by any buddy smart enough to handle a screw driver. NEXT!!!!
