You can baby it and maybe save 1-2mpg and shorten the life of the injectors or run it like its meant to be. I tried babyin' mine and it made very little difference in fuel mileage but I did notice it started running a little rougher at idle and smoked more. Took a trip with the camper and its back to running better.

If you have a standard (or even in an auto I suppose), coasting goes along way. See a red light or traffic up ahead, coast. No sense in driving up to it. Usually by the time you get up there the light is changed or traffic has let up and you maintain your forward momentum. If you have an auto, throw it in neutral if you do stop at a light (GM now has this feature on some of their newer cars). Throw about 60psi in your tires at least. Accelerate briskly to your target speed and let off and play "egg under the foot". If your going up a hill or overpass, dont try and maintain your speed as you will gain back going down hill what you lost up hill. If your doing 65-70 you might lose 5-10 mph going up hill, but coasting down the other side will get it all back, and then some.
