How is 48RE holding up to BOMB'd HO's?

Hope I'm putting this in the right section here. Who has a bombed '03HO with the 48RE, and would you care to tell us how it's been holding up for you? I've seen a few posts where people have pulled pretty heavy with the auto, but never with a bombed motor, and I'm interested in hearing how well the 48RE will do with 6,7, or 800 ft-lbs of torque in front of it. Any input would be appreciated!<br>Chris

Bomb it and you will probably, kiss your warranty good bye. The 03 eng computer will tell the dealer if anything has been changed. Ie , turn up the timing, they will know it, put in a fuel plate and they got ya. Blow your 48re after you bombed the motor. They will tell you, sorry charlie.

If you can afford to take the chance, their are a ton of ways to get your power up over 500hp and torque well over 600.

Genos is a good place to start.

I ran the power way up on a 48RE, no problems with the transmission. It seems to be almost as good as what DTT builds.

I did eat a very healthy cost for the fuel injection pump, lines, injectors, and lots of labor charges when the pump computer generated a code that squealed on me and Bosch found it two weeks later in their shop, after I thought I was off the hook!

RCW,
That brings up a question I’ve been thinking about for the last couple weeks. I’ve put the Edge EZ in and run it on the number 1 setting. I feel it make the truck a lot more responsive, but now I’m worried that I may have just voided a 100K warranty. Who else has been denied warranty coverage due to running the EZ? Was the EZ the only mod when your warranty was denied? I’m I really jeopardizing the longevity of my diesel by running the EZ?

The only way you'd be jeapordizing the longevity of your engine was if you put HUGE injectors with a HUGE turbo and a MUCH bigger chip on it. THEN, you might only get 300,000 miles out of it before your first rebuild. Right now, your going to get 499,999 instead of 500,000 miles. : From what I've heard, the dealer's now have the ability to read deeper into the computer to see if you had a chip on there. So yeah, you basically just voided your warranty. You play you pay.

This might be gossip, but this is the way it was explained to me. The owner of a vehicle can bolt on any aftermarket device he or she desires according some act (I can't remember the name of it) that was passed in 1977. Lets say you are running an EZ and your tranny fails. The dealer has to prove that the EZ was the cause of the failure inorder to void the warranty tranny fix. They can't just automatically void warranty based soley on the fact that you added an EZ.

Yes the dealer has to prove it, technically. (Magnessun-Moss Act sp?). In the case you mentioned, all they would need to prove is that you EZ altered the HP/torque going to your tranny and/or altered the controlling of your tranny in any way.

They would win this one and rightfully so.

I better start living right, and keep my fingers crossed. If this truck goes down and the warranty is denied, there will be a death in my family. I don’t have any kids and I can assure you it won’t be the wife.

Help me out here? Most of these controllers tell the the computer that you're running at normal parameters when you're actually fueling, boosting, and playing with timing. So if the device isn't on the truck when you bring it in how can they know. If these controllers acted outside normal parameters it would pop a code. Right??

Re:How is 48RE holding up to BOMB'd HO's?

Technically, under the Magnusson-Moss Act, the aftermarket part had to have played a role in the failure of the warrantied part. If the tranny kicks the bucket, they cannot automatically void the warranty because you have modified the vehicle. They must prove that the failure was a result of the modification. If the tranny snaps a band, and it was because of an incorrect shift-point from a defective valve body, then the modification cannot be blamed for the loss. This is why the Act exists. To prevent warrantors from not honoring their warranties by using &quot;no-tampering&quot; clauses in the contract. The Act, in layman's terms, states that &quot;you paid for it, it's your's to do with as you please as long as something you did to change the product doesn't cause the product to malfunction&quot;. Now, if the tranny input shaft is sheared into two pieces and you have modified the engine, then it is sufficient to say that the modification was indeed responsible for the failure.

Truth be told, a lot of dealers are more than willing to go to bat for you with the manufacturer if they indeed believe that a modification was not directly or indirectly responsible for the failure. A good technician can usually determine the true cause of part failure. A lot of times, the manufacturer will warranty a failed part if they cannot prove without a doubt the modification caused the failure, but will not warranty the same failure twice. The second failure is their justification that the modification was indeed responsible for the failure.

Hope this helps clear things up.

Re:How is 48RE holding up to BOMB'd HO's?

Everyone knows Bombing is an expensive hobby.

Why not buy an extra ECM and use it with the Bomb's? Seems like you could change back to the original one if any problems arise and remove any indication of modifications that might be stored.

Anyone know what a ECM costs? Anyone thought of this before?

Is there an easier way to connect up and remove traces of modifications from the ECM?

I believe a lot of (if not most) dealers will NOT go to bat for you. Now if you push them hard enough DC will probably ok most low to medium cost repairs because it would be cheaper than going to court to prove their case.

In the tranny case all they need to prove is that the increased HP caused any kind of stress that could even possibly lead to the part failure in question.
