Hesitation in steering wheel return to center

The last couple weeks the steering wheel has developed sort of a skip when doing a slow speed turn and the wheel returns to center.

If you let go of the wheel it skips or hesitates while it centers back up.

Last week I had the dealer give the front end a once over before its out of warranty. They found a bad u-joint and replaced it. The other joint was fine as well as the ball joints.

The alignment seems fine also. No strange shimmy in the steering wheel at any speed other than mentioned above. No wandering or pulling.

Any ideas?

I bet the other "U" joint is bad but not bad enough to detect without disassembly.

Thanks guys. I figured it was the other u joint, but the dealer seemed to think it was fine. I'll pull it apart this weekend.

mine has been doing the same thing. Dealer inspected today and found bad u-joints. 69,900 miles.

Mine did it on and off for a week or two a few months back but has never done it again. At the time u joints were checked but seemed fine.

That it quit doing it has me puzzled. If mine was a u joint it would get progessively worse I would think. I've dealt with bad u joints before and they never just went away, they got noticably worse.
