Here's one for the "diesels for dummies" book
OK, never owned a diesel until this one, so please forgive me in advance for this stupid question.
How can you tell if your turbo is working or not? I have read posts about people talking about "Turbo Bark" and of a loud blowing sound that kicks in while driving and pulling uphill.
I have never heard a thing out of the ordinary in mine. I was pulling up to a red light today and one of the older, noisy Dodge diesels, probably 97 or 98 model, was beside me. As he let off the accellerator, I could distincly hear a whirring whine sound coming from his engine, and I suppose this was his turbo doing something.
Should I be hearing this or whats it all about?
Thanks,
Rick

Roco334, No stupid questions
Welcome to the wonderful world of diesels, as well as to the site. Go to your profile and fill out your "sig". When people read your post they will be better able to help answer your question if they know a little more about what kind of truck you are driving and some if any mods you have made. Like D.M. said, you'll know when your turbo don't work. If you have a brand new CTD you may not even hear your turbo whistle while it works.
Welcome aboard!!!

rico334, if you want to hear your turbo whistle, take out the silencer ring and put in a re-usable air filter. There are many brands, K&N, AiRaid, Scotty...This will insure turbo songs...
