Help New 06 cummins wont start

My buddy just called and said he shut his truck off to fuel up and it will not start. He said it seems to have all power but the starter will not click or engage. It is a 06 3500 dually with a cummins and a 6-speed any ideas?

Hard to say, but maybe the clutch safety switch. In other words, if the switch is bad, the starter thinks you have not depressed the clutch, and won't engage starter

Also, of course, check for loose connections...battery cables. Long shot, but little stuff like that can AND will happen.

Does the switch still engage if its in neutral?

I dont have a dodge stick, but in other vehicles (a nissan comes to mind) when that relay went bad, it would still start if the stick was in neutral.

Yup, even in neutral. You MUST depress the clutch fully to start these trucks.
Unless of course you bypass it, which I will be doing when I rig up the remote start in mine.

Nissans you had to depress the clutch period. One thing that would go bad on them was the inhibitor relay. No contact, No start. I think if it was a key issue the truck would turn over, start, and shut down. Jump across the switch to see if it will start. You can use a paper clip. Just bend to fit.

Reminds me of the time I borrowed my brothers Toyota. It is a nightmare to borrow anything from him. Anyway, I get to where I am going and kill the engine. When I try to restart it it wont start. I do everything I can to get the darn thing started and nothing. I call my brother and tell him his truck is dead. Of course he goes into a rage telling me I will never be able to borrow anything of his including a penny! He shows up and the truck starts right up! Of course I didnt know I had to push in the clutch to start the dumb thing!

LOL<

I was reading on another forum about 06' starting issue. There's a yellow wire that helps control the starter. Apparently, it rubs against the oil dip stick tube(?) and shorts out. I'll be checking mine when the rains let up.
