Help! Engine looses all power

Hi all, I have been driving my dads 03 CTD and have developed a problem. When cruising down the road, 60 to 75 mph, the truck will just go back to idle and have NO throttle response. I know that the 2nd gen 24V would do this if the throttle position sensor would go out. Is it the same problem on a 3rd gen or is it something else? I have no codes, but I have also noticed a light haze at idle and sometimes it will idle a little higher rpm when you stop at lights and such. I dont know anything about the 3rd gen and any help would be great.

When is the last time the fuel filter was changed?

When was the last time the air filter was changed?

It's hard to determine a problem without codes... Sounds like a fuel related issue. Could be a CP3 problem... or the FCA on the CP3. Give us more info...

I am leaning towards air getting into the fuel system.

If it idles and then won't run, it probly time for the pump in the tank. How many miles?

If you have no codes:
#1 - I'd make sure the fuel filter is clean. If it has been a while since you changed it, start with that.
#2 - I'd check the exhaust flow. My cat clogged up one time causing loss of power. In fact the loss of power kept getting worse until I couldn't make it over 35.

Ok, sorry I havent answered until now, but the air filter is great, fuel filter I am not sure about and the truck has a straight pipe with no cat or muffler. I have no codes, but it just feels like the throttle has no response like I said earlier that the 24v does when the tps sensor quits. The truck has 130K on it and has ran perfect until now, I just dont know.

An 03' with 130,000miles.... and your unsure about the fuel filter.... I'd start there first. If the stock fuel pump is still there, I'd take a hard look at that also. I would check/fix those two things first and foremost before moving on to anything else.

Like I said, it is not my truck but my dad is very good about his service intervals and I am sure that it is fairly new. It just doesn't feel like a fuel problem, the power loss if instant instead of a taper off of power like with a fuel problem. It just falls off to idle and has No throttle, even with the fuel filter partially clogged up you should have some throttle response right? I will check it out though, thank for the help guys.

Chrysler has a TSB for no throttle response. It involves flashing a new program in the pcm. TSB # 18-027-03 This will have to be done at a dealer or if you know someone who works at a dealer, they can download the flash in a DRB2 and take it to the truck and flash it. A friend had the same problem with his 03, I flashed it and it been good ever since.

Yes, my wife has an 02 2500 5.9 and the discussions under "dead pedal" was helpful in working on her truck.
