98.5 dodge 24V looses power.

I have a buddy who has a 1998 Dodge 3500 24V auto 170,000 miles. He usually comes to me with any problems or service work.
The current problem is while driving down the road ALL throttle response will go away and the truck will return to an idle. It will do this about 1-5 seconds usually. If you let off the throttle while this happens and get back on it nothing changes, this is what leads me to believe its not "VP44 dead pedal" and an APPS problem.
Yesterday I read the codes and it came up with P0121-Throttle position sensor range performance. Anyone ever dealt with this code??
I reset the APPS for him and its acting up again today.

Now my other question is the boys at O'reilly can get a new one for about $160.00 along with a few other places that are around the same price range.
But then there are places that want $400.00+ for the APPS... What gives? Are they completly different or what?

i just ran across this probllem /code yesterday, Mine was my fault because I tried screwing with the APPS by advancing it a little, that was a big mistake, as it triggered a check engine light, and I had the same kinds of problems you mentioned, what worked for me was unhooking both grounds. at first that didn't work so I then did both grounds and the APPS plug for awhile then did the apps reset. with the accel. pedal and it has worked fine for 3 days, now.

my stunt could have blown the APPS up i have heard, so I got lucky hope this will help you

the price difference if kinda weird when I was pricing a new one out the other day I found them in the range of 480-625. luckily i didn't need one try ebay I have seen them on there from time to time,

Also a guy on here Timbo01 (i think) sells a cheaper version, but I haven't had any luck contacting him

You are heading in the right direction with the reset. You need to also do a recalibration of the voltage. I did this and fixed my dead pedal, going on several years now. There are directions on here somewhere, search it. The timbo mod is another alternative.

As far as price ranges, this is a dodge/cummins only part. I would buy @ cummins over dodge for savings.

HTH.

normally the apps is in the $400 range .Timbo sells a plug and play replacement for around $140 I have bought 2 from him and it works perfect, If that dont fix it check all your wire connections (clean and tight) my next guess would be the VP44
