Help Abs
Help Abs
All right Cummins Drivers
I have read the other posts and still a little lost here. Went to start the truck the other day and the ABS and Break light where on and stayed on...No flux with the speedO and cruse works just fine.....I pulled and cleaned the sensor at the rear and checked all the wires up front on both sides and to the rear with no change. I pulled and replaced the fuse for the ABS mod and am waiting to see if that helps. I looked at the post of a hub bearing gone bad and am wondering how to check the bearing with out pulling every thing. Any help will be greatly appreciated I have a long trip coming up to get my son and can use the help. Thanks and God Bless

The best thing you can do is to scan it for ABS codes, this will take a scanner made for ABS. Most of the cheap scanners will not show ABS codes, only engine codes. As for the front hubs, jack the front wheels off the ground and shake them left to right and up and down, any play will either be the ball joints, hub bearings or the steering linkage. You will need to look under the truck to see what has play. A hub bearing will only cause a ABS code if the bearings have worn to the point that the sensor in no longer with in range of the tooth wheel inside the hub. If that is the cause then you should have lots of noise when driving and lots of play when you shake the wheel.
Thanks Hintonc
I checkd the front bearings and no abnormal play. ABS/Break light both still on this morning. Stoped by Auto Zone and they have a reader but to by not to barow. I will try to run down a ABS reader to check before I just replace sensors. Any ideas what parts stores may have one to use???

You may want to check your pressure differential valve, that is the valve that turns on the red light if you loose brake fluid. It has a shuttle inside that moves over if the system flows more fluid to either the front or rear system.
Check the ohm reading across the two pins in the sensor connector. If the right one is open or shorted then you know that the sensor is bad. Still could be a wiring problem between the sensor and the abs ECM.
