Help with 2004 4wd

My 4wd worked fine about 2 weeks ago and now I engaged it and when you turn to the left or right it makes a horible bang, clunk whatever we want to call it. My 4wd light stays on, I have checked the vacum lines, drive shafts all look. It will also make the sound if you give it to mutch gas to quick. I have 35" nittos on it, but I had those on 2 weeks ago when I used it. As long as you are turning it will continue to bang all the way through the turn. any advice will be appriciated.

Are you on dry asphalt or is your U-Joint going South?

Sounds like u-joints on the front drive shafts, I would check those if I were you.

I meant the front axles, not drive-shaft

It does it on the Ice and snow and dry asphault. I checked the U joints and they look ok. I Checked the drive shaft as well. It does sound like it is comming from the differential. When I give it a little gas it will make a bunch of pops, like something is slipping when the front wheels try and get to much grip.

I can't tell if you are saying you have driven the truck in 4WD on dry asphalt and it makes the noise, or if it makes the noise while on dry asphalt when in 2WD. Driving in 4wd on dry asphalt is one easy way to cause much damage to your U-joints and more.

Have you gotten under the truck and try to wiggle the front axle shafts to look for movement in the U-Joints? Do it with the truck out of gear but parking brake on. There should be no movement within the U-Joint.

How many miles on the truck?

Its not much effort to pull the cover and check for broken spiders or worse. Every time I had this problem on my scouts it was always broken spiders. A broken shaft or U-joint makes a racket that is more than annoying. Its down right scary.

These front ends don't have the CAD anymore do they?
