Heavy Steering

The only way that I can think to explain my problem is heavy steering. I hear a hissing noise everytime I turn the steering wheel, and it will not return back to its central position without me turning it. The truck wanders on the road, and is a little jerky or static while turning. It has the power steering, but it seems to be weak.
Anyone experience this? I'm taking it to the dealer on Fri, but am concerned about driving it until then.

Had the same problem on my previous 05 truck. Dealer replaced the gear box and the power steering pump. Fixed the problem. You're right, probably should not drive the truck until it is fixed.

Ended up being the gear box, of which they had in stock. (warranty)
Did an L-O-F change, flushed the tranny, changed the front/rear diff, and the transfer case for $450.00. Don't know if thats a good price, but they have me running again in 1 day.

The ONLY steering boxes I've replaced on the DR trucks have had aftermarket wheels and large tires. I would say you got a REALLY good deal looking at your mods in your sig.

Mine is still bone stock, and it went at 37K. I know of quite a few others that are stock and have had the same problems.

My Father and I both bought 05's for our business and will buy again this year if there is a tax advantage.
Dealer treats me very good.

I can believe that. From my experiences that steering box must be barely good enough to get the job done. Any slight excessive load on it beyond that and away they go.

I towed with my first '06 and lost the steering box at about 19k miles.
Just got another '06, we'll see how long this box lasts.

My truck was completely stock also. Have read where several others have had trouble with steering boxes on the 3rd generation trucks.

I've had several parts break that should last the life of the truck. Dealer fixes everything, no questions asked, and usually has the parts in-stock.

I get good prices and have a great dealer, however, I use these trucks for work. I drive 30k a year, and 75% is towing. It seems to offset their pricing, DC is using throw away parts. I'd be scared to drive right now if this truck was nearing the end of it's warranty. I'll run it hard, and trade her in come Dec.
