Heard at the dealer yesterday

Had my truck in for oil change (free) and to check knock/ping (of course told it was normal no trouble found but that is another story)
I was sitting waiting for them to bring my truck around. A mechanic walked in and was talking to a service writer (they could not see me) He said "Yup we caused this problem and it will need a new engine" Sevice writer asked why. He said that they had replaced a timing chain and that the owner drove home...after getting about 10miles down the road the timing chain shredded and for some reason the motor was gone....The service writer said "So we caused it 100%? there was no way we can put this back on the customer?" Well the mechanic at this point started to go off on her that it wasnt right and that they had caused the problem etc...She kept pressing him....then she looked around and saw me. She grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into the shop...I plan on talking to the service manager at the dealership and letting him know why I will NOT be using them anymore...

This kind of activity goes on more than we can imagine, could you be so kind as to PM me with the name of the Dealer that did this? Thanks.

That is sickening. But your right, according friends in "the business" this happens way more than the public would ever even care to guess.... Absolutely ridiculous.

Make sure you do talk to the service manager and let him know what you think, (I sugest being polite but straightforward but that's just my take on it)

Then I would mention it to any friends who are talking of using said dealer or service department.

Sooner or later maybe these clowns will figure out what accpetable business practices really are.

I know it happens I was surprised they talked about it in the open like that. I am supposed to take the service manager for a test ride next (just got the call) to listen to my knock/ping...I think I will bring it up then. If I dont like his reaction I will just take my truck somewhere else..

While I agree that the service manager was wrong in pressing the issue with the mechanic, the owner is getting a brand new (zero mile) engine? Obviously, the engine must have had close to 100K miles on it, and now they get a brand new one? I can also see that the owner did nothing wrong and should be made whole.

Just food for thought.

If it wasnt for the mechanic the cost probably would have been put on the customer. She was doing everything trying to get the mechanic to back down and say it could have been caused by the customer in some way...

If I took a vehicle in for a new timing belt and made it 10 mile down the road and it shreded and recked the engine there is no way they would get me to pay for it. I dont care if the service manager did convinse the tech to blame it on me I would raise holy poop. If I where you I would definatly not stop at the service manager I would take it straight to the owner. Of cours if it is one of those huge dealerships that may be hard to track them down but I would try. For me it would be no problem as the owner is always in the building and accesable. If he wasent I would just cach him at church sunday morning.

Well I did it, I've transformed from the ford 6.0 to the 5.9 610 series. I had a 03 6.0 pst. After several severe problems way to many to mention. I was forced to lemon law the truck. After winning my arbitrtions battle, Ford reimbursed every penny that I had invested. I ordered my new 05 the day after Christmas. A 610 HO H package, 48re, rb4 dvd nav, 4dr, 8ft bed, 3.73, atlantic pearl blue, anti slip rear. I'm a little nervous about my decision with the 48re but it was a long wait on the 6 speeds am I still OK !!

I experienced a little of this yesterday. I was at the dealership to complain about the service I had received. I asked the svc mgr a question he could not answer, so he went in to talk to the the svc writer. She was not aware I was present. You wouldn't believe the way she carried on. It was almost embarassing. Finally, the svc. mgr. got her stopped and told her I was right outside. Believe me, if they can place the blame somewhere else, or give you the run-a-round, they will do it. Needless to say, they won't be touching my truck, again.

I dont want to put the dealership name out on the net. It is not fair to condem an entire dealership over one persons bad judgment. I plan on talking to the manager next week and we shall see how it goes.

I'll second that. Call DCX and file a complaint. They will jump all over this. DC does not want that type of publisity(spelling).
