Have you had Front Axle U-joints Replaced?

The title says it all, and why did you have them replaced? Were they making noise, vibrating, or just did it while it was apart for something else?

Technically I haven't replaced them yet, but they are due and on the agenda. The drivers side is making a noise, passenger seems fine. This is with about 120k on the clock...

How did it strand you, did it grenade and bind up or something?

Yes, it grenaded when I was going 70MPH on the interstate. I heard the knocking noise all of a sudden get loud, and before AI could get my foot on the brake pedal, it sounded like a small bomb went off under my truck, and then the insuing rat a tat tat from the u joint basicly not having any caps on it at all.

I nursed it off the interstate then had to call a tow. It is at the dealer now, and will be a day or two before I can gt it back, cause I think it may have got the axles.

5000 miles out of warranty.

The DYNATRAC freespin kit will eliminate this problem. There is no reason
for these u-joints to be spinning when traveling 70 mph on interstate. DC
cheaped out on the design ! I know that I sound like I get commission for
sales of these kits, but I don't. I just want folks to know there is a cure
fo this flawed design.

I am strongly considering this. I have to get my truck fixed right now though, and I am at the mercy of the dealer unfortunately. It is my only mode of transportation. So I will take this one bending over, and then if I feel it is getting near this point again, then I will prolly throw down for the kit.

Yep

Dealer replaced both of mine at 58k miles. Look for rust stains on your wheels, early warning system.

Yes both at 80000. Got the truck used . Its an 03. Made the tick noise in turns . You can rock the truck and hold the joint and feel it move. Also had telltale rust at the cups.
