HARD shutdown

Just starting happening more reccently, when I shut the truck down, or have it shut down with the turbo timer, its a real rough shut down. Not just a belt squeek noise, but a pretty hard shake when it shuts off.

I know the belt is a little worn, and I need to replace it soon, but any ideas on what it could be? A pulley hangning up?

Ill see if I cant snap a video of it.

Mine does it too. I was told it was the Dual Mass flywheel and pushing the clutch in while shutting down would help. Well, it did but now that I have the solid flywheel with the OFE, pressing the clutch in doesn't help anymore.
It's normal though....

Yea it must be normal, I get the same thing usually.

You mentioned your belt being worn? Does anyone know how long they are generally good for?

Not sure, mine has 46k miles on it, just now starting to show some wear on the outter edges, I figure better safe than sorry on replacing it. Wouldnt want to be stranded somewhere with no belt

As for the shutdown, it just seemed to get louder/harder more reccently. Havent changed anything on the truck
I know its not a gasser shutting off, but it seems more "violent" than my old 12 valve turning off.

Even brand new mine had a nice 2-3 revolution shudder, enough to rock the gearshift and transfer case shifter and feel it in the seat at shutdown. Normal with a diesel - the fuel is shut off and you basically just have the momentum of the crank and pistons slamming into air that now doesn't ignite and closed exhaust valves.

The pushing in of the clutch thing doesn't really help the engine shutdown noise, but more of the gear clatter in the manual trans - a more tinkling-like, metallic noise.

Just my $.02

na i think i know what your talking about, more of a quick rev then die hard thing right? Mine just started doing that a week or so ago, i started a thread about it and know one followed. It ended up being the edge ez box, something with it, it still ran great but died hard. Removed it and it went away.

My belt just broke a couple of weeks ago with almost 80k on it. Luckily I was across the street from the parts store when it happened.

I have a new belt waiting in my toolbox. But my truck has 82K now on the original. I have been wondering when I need to replace mine too. I'd like to go ahead and replace it at around 100k just for good measure.....so I can do it at a time and place of my choosing...rather than on the side of a road in a rainstorm etc.

..
