Getting the Belt off

Ok I did a search on here and on google but I can't really find anything. I'm trying to take the serpentine belt off so that I can do the tone ring mod. What I've done so far is put a socket on the tensioner bolt and tried turning it to the right to relieve the tension. All it did was tighten the bolt. Am I doing this wrong? Thanks for your help.

Your probably on the wrong bolt. The tensioner pulley should swing fairly easy.

I'll have to double check but I thought there was only one bolt on it.

I thought it was just a square cut out in the tensioner that you insert the head of the ratchet into.

X2 what purple said. It's a 1/2 in hole to slip a breaker bar in and pull down. Then you can just slip it off of the a/c pully and ur done.

There is a toothed wheel right behind the harmonic balancer for the crank position sensor. You can turn the wheel clockwise to advance the injection timing. Do a search and there is a right up of how to do it.

I was thinking square too but wasn't 100%. Been awhile since I took a belt loose.

Definitely no sockets are required to slacken the tensioner. You only need a 1/2" drive ratchet and maybe a pipe to extend the ratchet. Also, the belt does not need to come completely off, but only off the lower (crank) pulley and then the tone ring mod is easy to do.

Thanks, knew about wheel but not that you can adjust timing.
