Which gears for 35s?

I'm getting close to having enough money saved to order my 06 Megacab.... It's going to be stock for a little bit, but I'm planning on getting 35" toyos with some weld wheels as soon as I can afford it. I want to get the gear ratio with this in mind. Should I go with the 3.73's or the 4.10's? Fuel efficency is important but mainly I want to maintain a proper powerband... Thanks for any input!

i have 35s and 3:73s and a 6 speed. It is fine. I actually want one more gear.

I dont have a auto, but i would go for the 3:73s. lower rpm at speed.

If you tow heavy all the time, then the 4:11 is prob good. What is your intend use for the truck?

I would say unless you tow all the time get the 3.73's the cummins has plenty of power to turn the 35's. Plus, I"m sure you'll make power upgrads to compensate. In the end you'll get better mpg.

my 2 cents.

Question 35's on a '06 Cummins

I have an '06 with 35's, and the 4.10 gives me just under 2K rpms at seventy. But no one (Chrysler or shop) seems to know how to adjust the ECU to compensate for this size tire, so be prepared for an error of about ten percent in speedo/odo...

I was informed by a D/C tech that software for '06's tire changes has not been provided to them yet.

Dealers and many shops have the DRM programmer that can be used to input the rev's per mile of larger tires for '05's and earlier. The change in the ECU language came in '06 - and is typical, the software to accomodate what we all do to our trucks isn't available for those yet. Many tire web sites have the revs per mile if you or your dealer or shop do not have that info...

I'm running 35's with 4.10's and have no problems at all. If you want to stay within the power band then 4.10's should be your choice. 3.73's won't keep you in the power band like the 4.10's would, this is based on an auto.

Depends on what type of driving you do. As a building contractor, I do lots of stop/go city type driving. With the 3.73's and 35's, I'm lucky if I get 11 mpg city, 15 mixed. On the highway, unloaded, flat, wind at my back, etc. I get up to 18-19 mpg. Towing my 4000 lb boat, back down to about 13 mpg highway. I will put 4.10's on soon - the higher the price of diesel gets, the faster I get my payback on the new gears.

You lost me there man. Are you saying that you expect to get better mileage with the lower gears?
