G56 Shift Housing Removal
G56 Shift Housing Removal
I just finished changing the transmission fluid and I would like to add a little extra. How do I remove the shift housing on a 2005 truck? I can't find any of the screws that hold the plastic shift housing assembly in place.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Wow, either this is a really stupid question or nobody out there know's either.
I just want to pull the center stuff off my floor to get to the top part of my transmission. I can't find any of the screws and I don't want to break anything.

I haven't done an 03-05, but on the 2nd gens and late 3rd gens, its pretty easy. Most of the screws will be under things: check under the cup holder liners, 4wd shifter boot or delete, transmission shifter boot or delete, etc. Once you think you've found them all, pull on it and it should pop out. It will probably be held in by a combination of screws and "snap-in" clips.
Next, remove the boot around the shifter at the floorboard, then there are 4 bolts holding the shift tower onto the trans.
This is my best basic guess, having never done an 03-05 truck. If nobody else replies to correct me, I bet it's in a Haynes or Chilton manual as well. Hope this helps.

or do it the really easy way and run the girl up on a sidehill and dump in the lil extra.
but to answer your question, the upper shifter boot snaps in. there is a secondary boot under the upper boot that screws into the steel floor. remove screws and then the shift tower bolts will be accessable.
much easier to run her un a sidehill and add fluid than dealing with the interior parts

On my 2006 I pulled the cup holder rubber liner things, there were screws under there. It was pretty straight forward. I just looked for screws or just snapped parts of the dash off. I sold the truck about 5 months ago so Im just going off of memory.
