G56 Question

I have a 2006 4x4 with the G56 and SBC 3600 DD. I have found a good deal on a G56 from a 2007 with 1318 miles.

From my understanding the gear ratios are different between an AD and AE coded transmission. The AE should result in better fuel mileage.

Are there any other differences?

Also, the 2007 G56 may be from a 2WD truck. Will a 2WD G56 work in a 4x4 G56?

TIA.

The 07 will have a different 6th gear. Better for highway driving and fuel mileage. Not sure if you can swap the tailshaft from one to the other. Maybe someone else can help on the 4x4 issue.

Thanks for the help.

Actually, all the gears except 5th have different ratios.

And, from I've heard on other boards, 2WD and 4WD transmissions are not directly interchangeable. No one seems to know exactly how much work it would take to make a 2WD transmission work for a 4WD application.
