I dont like it as much as my old 6spd i have some severe vibration in 5th gear and the stock clutch has slipped on me more then once when towing. honest i have thought about pulling my g56 and replace it with a unit i have on the shelf. what going to happen when i start adding more power ?? i dont have a good feeling about this. sometimes change isnt always good, jr

I appreciate the resposes. Sounds like it is a matter of whether you want to chance the new tranny. Still anything has got to be better than what I have at this point.

You guys think the g56 is bad on the top end, you oughta try my '98 with 4.10's and the nv4500! I REALLY wish I had another gear or two in that truck.

V8440, Their RPMs are probably pretty close. I remember reading on here a while back that the lower OD ratio with the 3.73s is comperable to the NV5600 with 4.10s! Neither of my trucks have 4.10s and I sure wouldnt want them.

What is the OD ratio of the new transmission the NV5600 is .73 and I have the 3:73 diffs and I wish I had a seventh gear. I just ordered a Gearvenders for mine. when I get it (about 2 weeks) I will see how that works.

I don't particularly like them either. I rarely do much towing, and when I do, the engine is bombed enough to have plenty of pulling power.

3.54's......73 of the 5600 and a 12 valve.

With the 4000 gsk the top end runs out at 140 mph.

And with a measly 3K GSK 110 is still within reach

I am asking all these questions becasue I am having issues with my Ford and am considering a Dodge. Thanks in advance.

While I like my NV5600 better ( I have and still do drive alot of G56's), it is a good transmission. It has a good rep in Europe where its been used for along time. It does weigh over 100 pounds less (but who cares when your truck weighs 7000lbs anyway. All transmssions released by DC have to pass the same durability validation, so while I believe the single mass flywheel will handle more overall torque for a longer period of time, the G56 will be fine if you leave it stock or only slightly mod (say no more than 125hp/200ftlbs).

The reason the gearing is like that is because those are the gears used in Europe. It was deemed too expensive to re-tool for different gearing.

5th gear rattle

I have an 05 3500 DRW 4X4 w/ 6spd
gets 13.5 city
15.5 highway @ 70-75 mph

at 5K miles the tranny begin to vibrate/rattle in 5th
now at 8K miles the rattle continues to get louder and louder, especially when under a load.

has anyone experienced this or have a solutution??

Change Fluid?
Overfill with Fluid?
Turn up the radio and drive it till it pukes?

Thanks in advance.....

5th Gear Rattle

My second G56 has a rattle in 5th gear. The tranny has about 1000 miles on it. I agree the rattle, buzz, ticking (whatever you want to call it) is more noticable under a load.

My first G56 didn't make it past 400 miles. I am not overly pleased so far.

I wonder if the G56 would be better with Royal Purple Synchromax than with the stock ATF+4.
A relative just bought a new '05 QC 3500 dually with the G56 to replace the '05 QC 3500 dually with the NV5600 that was destroyed by a falling tree during hurricane Rita. No complaints so far other than poor fuel economy.

Anybody notice a hard shift going from 3rd-4th. I just picked mine up Friday and it's only got ~400 miles on it, so I know it will be tight for a while, but it shifts nice everywhere but there...
