OK I just got off the phone with the dealer here is the prices for a new 6th gear swap!!!!
needle bearing=$13.35
6th gear=$407.00
5-6 synchronizer hub=$637.00

I am not 100% sure cause I just called them on the phone..the hub is a lot more then I wanted it to be and I think it it a must to get the hub
dealer told me they could get the parts in 3-5 days...also said I could come in and get a exploded parts diagram.
I am not sure on the hub but it only makes since that you need a hub cause the hub slides over 5 and 6 gear....

That's alot of $$$ (and it does not include labor) just to drop from 0.79 to 0.74. This is only a 6.7% reduction. You can get a 9.1% reduction by swapping the 3.73 to 3.42 gears, or a 10.7% reduction by going from stock tires to 35" (315) tires.

Correct me if I am wrong, for most of us 10% is like about 200 RPM'S in 6th at 64 mph, right?

Doesn't seem worth it- just buy a new 08 with the higher g56, 3.42's and put 315's on.

WHOA! Yeah, that will solve it, buy a whole new truck.

I think I'll stick with getting 22.5's. Kills two birds with one stone (the other bird being that you will be the coolest looking truck in your zip code with one single mod).

unless the truck you have now is paid for you would take a huge loss to sell just for the higher gears..more then what would make it worth it IMHO

I dont think the G-unit is bad after putting 315's on....

but a little lower RPM would be nice.

my rig is paid for and mama says no more trucks for a long time

anywaysI really like the driveability of my truck around home right as it isbut it needs longer legs so I think the best thing is to swap gears as far as money and all else is concerned maybe DC will do a tsb for this lol yeah right

Most people with the G56 already went larger tires so if you through in the 3.42's that would be a nice return I think. 35's and 3.42 would be a good reduction in rpm's.

It would effectively give you 3.08 (compared to a stock tire).

A 4WD would require TWO 3.42 swapouts, correct?

That's double the money, right there. Front AND rear ends. Any idea what this would cost, compared to the ~$1100 for the 6th gear swapout?

heres the pricing i got for my truck
"If it is an 07 you likely don’t need master kits, this is what most do:
For front and rear gears, std install kits, & front spacer $975
or
For front and rear gears, std install kits, & front loaded carrier $1100
Add $275 to the above prices to upgrade to master bearing kits"

i know how to setup gears and have all the tools so labor is not a factor for me

for rpms at 75

3.08 with stock tires like stated above....would be a .79*3.08=2.43 final ratio

75/31*336*2.43=1975rpm at 75 mph
