Let me start be requesting that you don't laugh at the way I try do describe this sound It has been bothering me for a few weeks now. When the engine is idle, such as a stop light or warm-up at the house, I keep hearing a "rasping"sound about every second or so. It could almost be compared to rubbing you finger down a comb (very quickly) except it is much louder of course. It seems to occur about once every second or two and remains in a nice rythum. No signs of rough idle or Tach movement and no loss of power?

HELP...it is driving me crazy!!!!

 

The first thing that comes to mind that would make that sound is the radiator. Maybe something on the fan blade that is rubbing the radiator?
Have you tried to hear what area the sound is coming from?

 

Also, does the sound go away after the engine warms up, or is it all the time whenever idling?

 

Not anywhere near the radiator. It is coming from the engine and seems to happen when it is cold outside. I have not noticed it yet during warmer weather. I sounds like it come from inside the engine block but it does not ever go away when it's cold (only around 40).

 

could it be a little injector rattle?
