Funny Cold Start

Latley its been about -5 C and when i start the truck it will kick right in to high idle about 1000 rpm. just wondering if this is okay or am i looking at increased wear?

It is normal, but I don't care what anyone says, that is hard on them. That is a rough dry start. Find anyway possible to plug it in. That is increased wear at its greatest.

step on the brake RIGHT after start up. it will kick it back down, let oil psi build then let it go to high idle.

Neutral allows the tranny to warm up. It will circulate. You have to be fast on that brake pedal, but it will still hit 1000. Try and warmer up.

It will still do it. Try and plug it in. Get a timer.

That would be great. Most people usually do around 3 hours. When it is that cold, I usually plug mine in all night. That heat transfers to the oil a little. Warms it just a bit. Some will disagree, but with a heat gun, it will tell you.

When it hits -30 below zero I like to plug mine in for a full 4 hours and close off all 4 panels on my winter front until the outside temps get up to 10 degrees. BTW wind chill has no affect on your truck, wind chill only affects living things like humans and animals.
