Does anyone have a pic of the top of the fuel tank for my 2003, and would you want to post it for me? I tried the search function which is down again . So thanks in advance!

 

This is my 04.5, but they should be the same, What do you need to know?

 

The blue thing on the canister is aftermarket, and the line in front of the canister is from the AD. I did a fuel tank vent mod, so where the small rubber line comes out of the top of the tank is my work, too.

 

Awesome, thanks madhat! What i am wondering about is the small, looks to be 5/16" fuel line that you have coming from what i suppose is a vent on the rear of the tank then to a tee fitting with a hose from the front of the tank maybe? Then it tees off to a small inline fuel filter. I was just looking around a little on my truck the other day and saw that mine just has a barb end sticking out on the rear of the tank and no hose off of it. This didn't seem right to me. Also, is there another one of these on the front of the tank? Thanks for the help guys.

 

There are two, one on the front, one on the back. They are breather vents, not a smart way to do this, IMHO. I just went and got a cheepo inline fuel filter, a T, and some line. I don't remember what size it was. I ran the hose from the filter into my frame. It's just to keep crap out of the tank, but some people say that they get more fuel in the tank with it, I did not notice any change.

You can easily do this (or I did with my truck on 33's at the time) by crawling under the passenger side of the truck and slipping the hose over the vents. No bed/tank removal required.

Madhat, after reading the above and looking at the pictures, I am a bit confused. I was thinking that those were roll-over vents which mean they are one-way valved. They allow air into the tank so that the fuel pump does not pull a vacuum on the tank and the reason for the filters is as you described to keep contaminents out. They do not let air (or fuel for that matter) out of the tank. The vent mod that allows people to put more fuel in their tank is routed back to the fill hose from a seperate vent located high on the tank which does not have this valve thus allowing the air space in the upper part of the tank to vent the air and fill with fuel. Am I wrong or am I not seeing your pictures right?

 

I believe that they are the roll over vents. I put the hose on there to keep crap out, like you mentioned.

I don't think that I have ever seen the tank mod that lets you put more fuel in. I have heard about it, but never was too interested, so I did not investigate it.
