Fuel Problem

2004 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT with the 5.9 Cummins. Truck runs great until I reach 1/2 tank of fuel. Then it starts to stall, spit, sputter and hard/won't start. I fill back up (usually 20 gal) it runs fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be? I've taken truck to two shops, haven't fixed the problem.

IIRC, some folks had issues with a cracked dip tube. As long as the crack was covered in fuel, it sucked fuel. When the fuel level dropped below the crack, it sucked fumes. Might be time to drop the tank. In my old '03, I dropped the tank to install a vent kit. This gave me an extra couple gallons of space for fuel. I'm not sure if the vent kit is still available, but if your tank is like my '03, it might be something you want to do while your tank is down.

Fuel Problem

Thank you. A friend of my son made the same comment so I'm going to pull pump from tank. Thank you again.

You are quite welcome. I found the vent kit would apply to your '04 and the Description from Glacier is;

Description

'03-'12 Dodge Ram GDP Fuel Tank Vent Kit

Tired of waiting at the fuel pump to trickle the last 3 to 4 gallons into the tank on your '03-'12 Dodge Ram? Then this is the kit for you! This kit relocates the fuel tank vent from the factory location to the highest point on the tank. This allows you to add an additional 3 to 4 gallons to the tank while filling right up to the neck every time!

The GDP Fuel Tank Vent Kit uses only the highest quality 3/4" fuel hose along with brass and steel fittings (versus plastic) for a strong and trouble free installation on '03-'12 Dodge Rams. Spend your time on the road where you should be and not at the pumps!

Have a good weekend, back to morning brew . . .
