12 v fuel problem presure

here is what i have done i swapped injector pumps from 2 running trucks
the problem im having is i put a 180 pump with asome work done to it on a 96 dodge 1 ton i didnt get the timing gear tight enough to start with i have since fixed that problem but on my return from a test drive the truck acted like i ran out of fuel after i checked a few things i removed the supply line just behinde the filter and installed a hose running to 5 gallon of fuel now the truck will run perfect as long as im sucking fuel from the jug 25 lbs of press
when i reinstall the line from the tank i lose fuel press then truck dies the truck has 1/4 tank of fuel plus i added 5 gallon on top of that ive had now fuel tank problem untill now any help would be greatly helpful

A little hard to read .
Maybe fuel hose or lines , make a fitting for the tank fill cap , put 3-5 lbs air pressure in tank , look for fuel or air leaking out of fuel lines & hose's , if not then the lift pump may be going , mine would not pull fuel out of tank when it got to about 1/4 of a tank , took apart and found that the check valves were breaking up .

Besides the prescreen in the fuel heater there is a screen in the tank that could be clogged.

ok the fuel line from the tank is the only one ive removed
i put 6 foot of hose on at the same place i took the tank line off reprimed the lines then it will run with 25lbs of fuel press, runs perfect
then i turn the truck off swap the hose back to the tank hose restart truck
then i have 5-10 lbs for about 3 min then it goes to 0 lbs then dies
but what i dont get truck ran great untill i swapped the injection pump

Well I think if you have already demonstrated that it will run out of a 5gal bucket of fuel and not the fuel tank, it is something behind where you disconnected the hose to run to the 5gal bucket. Check all fuel lines and drop the tank if you have to and check to make sure nothing is rotted or clogged in the tank module. Now if the 5gal bucket is at a higher point than the fuel tank then it may be aiding the lift pump and you may have a weak lift pump. Also, as stated before, your fuel cap may be clogged and pulling a vaccum on the fuel tank making it hard to draw fuel out of it.

Agreed, it has to be something behind the LP ie tank, lines, or bad fuel cap. The 5 gal bucket being higher as stated would indicate a failing LP. The fact that it happened after you switched the pumps is more than likely not connected.

Good to hear that it was a simple fix. Did you by chance put a higher flowing LP on there?
