My truck needs a Fuel Pressure Limiting Switch, the dealer sells them for $360 and I'd like to install it myself. Has anyone done this before? How difficult is this & are there any specialty tools required? I'm somewhat concerned since I'll be pulling it from the fuel rail & haven't toyed with the highly pressurized system before. Any links to the process?

I'd like to do it myself for a few reasons... truck is out of warranty so I'm paying for it, I feel better doing it on my own (educate myself), etc. Having the dealer do the job isn't out of the question, they charge $90 for labor. My big problem is having the truck down... it gets driven every day, matter of fact I'm headed to Utah tonight.

What do you guys think?

are you wanting a LOW supply fuel pressure light/switch???
so you know if your losing your lift pump?

REMOVAL
The fuel pressure limiting valve is located on the top of the fuel rail (FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR/FUEL PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE).

CAUTION: Cleanliness cannot be overemphasized when handling or replacing diesel fuel system components. This especially includes the fuel injectors, high-pressure fuel lines and fuel injection pump. Very tight tolerances are used with these parts. Dirt contamination could cause rapid part wear and possible plugging of fuel injector nozzle tip holes. This in turn could lead to possible engine misfire. Always wash/clean any fuel system component thoroughly before disassembly and then air dry. Cap or cover any open part after disassembly. Before assembly, examine each part for dirt, grease or other contaminants and clean if necessary. When installing new parts, lubricate them with clean engine oil or clean diesel fuel only.

Thoroughly clean area at pressure limiting valve.
Remove banjo bolt (FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR/FUEL PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE) at banjo fitting.
Remove pressure limiting valve from fuel rail.
1 - ELEC. CONNECTOR
2 - BANJO BOLT
3 - FUEL PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE
4 - FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR
5 - TOP OF INTAKE HEATER MANIFOLD

$360 seems pretty high for a PRV - even from a dealer.

 

Can't seem to find the part number. If you have it, I can look up list price and availablilty on it.
