Fuel Mileage

Not sure what anyone is getting in fuel mileage...But I'm usually getting around 13 MPG...All I know is that I was under the impression that diesels got amazingly high fuel mileage...Anyone else?!?

(1) It needs to break in and (2) you need some mods to really get all the performance out of it.

I can get 20+MPG on the highway cruising @ 75.

Over the first 7000 miles, I am getting 16.8MPG (21.6 according to the overhead!!! )

Oh yeah. THe overhead is so far off it's disgusting! I am not sure why they can't make one that is accurate. I don't even have the TST doing extra fuel so it's not like there is fuel going in that it doesn't know about.

My best was going from Columbus to Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh to Columbus, and Columbus back to Pittsburgh on one tank. It was about 620 miles and my fuel light was on, but I still had a gallon or two left.

Thats awesome!!! I try to never let mine get under 1/4 tank so unsure what it's full capabilities actually are...I was told never to let it get too far under 1/4 because it could cause damage?!?

It`s all relative to how the veh. is operated.....Period.
If your the first off the light, race around in a hurry, drive over 65 MPH on the freeway and generally have a heavy foot. The trucks mileage will reflect this. I average 18 to 19 MPG unloaded running no faster than 70 MPH and run it easy in town. I do have a TST set @ 3-3. If I drive like everyone else around here, it drops fast.
The overhead readout gives the current average, not an overall MPG per tank.
I can get mine to read 23.4 on the freeway driving it easy with a concentrated effort towards fuel economy.Fuel Mileage-img_0146.jpg

My 02 has the current MPG setting on the O/H where it tells you your current MPG, but my 06 does not, it only reads MPG over the life of the tank.

My 02 has the light package and my 06 doesn't, is the current MPG setting only on the light package?

On my 02 on this setting if I floor it it will drop to 4MPG, on my 06 it stays the same or drops maybe 1/10th of a MPG.

The '06 "MPG" reading is for however long you have set it for. What I mean by that is, you can reset it at any time and then it will read the MPG for that given distance. I have never reset mine so it's reading the MPG for the entire life of the truck. What is amazing is that, cruising on the highway for just 100 miles will raise the average MPG (calculated over 7000 miles) by several MPGs. It shows just how much better than the average shown, it thinks I am currently getting.

My tires make a HUGE difference in my highway MPGs. I cruise @ 75 with the RPMs at 2000. WHen my new tires go on, that will drop in the 1800s. My boost stays around 6psi, so I am running very efficiently.

Like I said. It`s current MPG, not overall MPG as in per tank.
You can reset it all you want. It`s still reading current MPG. That`s all it can read.

If it's current then it should drop to 4-6mpg when I floor it.

I think we're talking about 2 different modes as I mentioned in my above post with my 02.

Are you talking about the '06 overheads? If you are, then all they can show is OVERALL MPG as in (from the time you hit reset until then). They are NOT "Instant Econs" the way many manufacturers call them where it gives you real-time MPG info. It is simply an average over the sampled time.

I think you just may not have chosen the best words for what you were trying to say, unless I am misunderstanding you. "Overall" is not limited to per tank. It literally means overall the time period you selected.

I'm with you D.Wiggs, unless he has a real early 06 that has the same set-up as my 02, my 02 only has current.

06

1 push DTE
2 push Odometer
3 push MPG since reset (Per tank or beyond)
4 push Blank
