Fuel Mileage
). The fact that flooring it will either do nothing or very little is because it is sampling that fuel economy against a much larger percentage.
Are you talking about the '06 overheads? If you are, then all they can show is OVERALL MPG as in (from the time you hit reset until then). They are NOT "Instant Econs" the way many manufacturers call them where it gives you real-time MPG info. It is simply an average over the sampled time.
I think you just may not have chosen the best words for what you were trying to say, unless I am misunderstanding you. "Overall" is not limited to per tank. It literally means overall the time period you selected.

.That`s why it changes very little when you hold it to the floor.
The early models did have the ability to read MPG overall, but Dodge and there infinite wisdom removed that part of the function in 06
Sorry I meant to say current average MPG.. .

Yep, that O/H is useless, last tank it read 14.4, hand calc was 15.9, this tank with PSP it said 14.7 and hand calc was 15.4.
PSP hurt my mileage! Okay...okay, I figure they must have finally switched fuel, the pumps still do not say ULSD, but something happened between 02/05/07 and today.

On my 06 not counting winter fuel my lowest on the Hwy was 15.5 and best was 20.5 mpg and I had under 6000 miles on it at the time late last summer. Also my over head has never shown higher then 18.7 mpg and mine was built in 8/05
It may be the red paint. I've heard that it evaporates the fuel before it gets burned.
Or it could the fact that you have a big heavy truck that you are running on winter fuel (ULSD at that) Either way, don't ask me my mileage. I am still on my first tank.

I have filled up 3 times since new.
1st tank 13.9 stock
2nd tank 14.0 315's added
3rd tank 13.9 muffler delete & s&b intake added
My over head reads 12.2 or so. I have let the truck sit running a bit and do pretty much intown driving.

Highest I have even gotten in mine is 18.00mpg, hand calculated. All highway, Edge set on Lvl4.4 and I tried to keep it around 68mpg. Normally I average in the 15-16mpg range, but lately I've been a bit lower due to warming the truck up a bit. I have averaged 15.75mpg over the life of the truck (I keep a spreadsheet). I've also noticed that if I don't add any DieselKleen and Marvel Mystery Oil I get close to a 1.5mpg drop.
Today is two months with my truck with 1660 miles on the odometer. Best I have seen hand calculated is 14.1 vs 11.49 on my last tank. This thing needs to get a lot better for me to warrant keeping it and getting a VW Rabbit Diesel!
It takes quite a few miles for these trucks to really break in, but even at that be aware the majority of the MPG claims you see being made by anyone out there are generally overestimated but not nearly as bad as the gas engines you see very once in a while in these trucks. The 04 8.1 gasser from chevy that I drove for a year got less than 10 mpg on the interstate unloaded.
I would tell you the mileage that I get, but it would make you sick,, but actually I dont know how to convert to US gallons.. and I know for a fact that the 03's get considerabley better mileage than the newer trucks.. I can quite easily get 25 -27 on the highway,, aslong as I keep it under 75mph,, and around 20 in town
