There has to be a problem with your truck. My 06 get's 16-17 around town and 17-19 at 68 mph. It just turned 6800 miles. I don't know if it helps, but I add howes diesel treat every fill up. I also have an amsoil air filter. Ot

Mung, the answer to your question depends on a lot of things, such as your rear axle ratio, how many miles you have on your truck, auto or manual tranny, and the type of driving you do (jack rabbit starts from lights, etc). I have kept a logbook with the amount of fuel used in my truck for every tankfull in both my '99 Dodge 3500 dually and my new '06 Dodge 3500.

My current truck gets an average of 13.3 in the city, 10.6 towing my fifth wheel (weighs 14,000+), and 16.9 on the highway at about 70 MPH. this is after 3685 miles of driving the truck.

As you can see in my signature line, I have an auto tranny with a 4.10 rear end.

Always be careful of the mileage that people quote you. They often do the calculation quickly in their head, or depend on the MPG readout on their trip computer. Everyone's driving style is a little different too. Your mileage sounds a little low if you do a lot of highway driving. It may worth a trip back to the dealer to have it checked. Hope this helps!

I HAVE AN 05 3500 SRW WITH SIMULAR SITUATION JUST NOT AS BAD. i HAVE BEEN DING ALLOT OF READING ON THIS FORUM. I SEE ALLOT OF LIP SERVICE ABOUT DRIVING CONDITIONS, HABITS BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. THIS IS MY SECOND DIESEL FIRST WAS A FORD (SHOULD HAVE KEPT IT). I AM GETTING 7 MILES MPG TOWING 11,700 LBS & 12 EMPTY. I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME TESTING AND SPEAKING WITH SOME THE THE INDUSTRY LEADERS (DR. PERFORMANCE & DIESEL DYNAMICS) ABOUT JUST THIS, FUEL ECONOMY. THEY HAVE BEEN RUNNING ACROSS MISS MATCHED INJECTORS ON THE 2005 CTD. IF THE FUEL PRESURE IS INCREASED WITH THESE MISS MATCHED INJECTORS IT DOES HELP YOU ECONOMY, HOWEVER IT DOES NOT ELEMINATE THE INJECTOR PROBLEM. HERE IS A TEST I HAVE DONE. IF YOU LOOK AT MY SIGNATURE I HAD AN EDGE INSTALLED, EDGE DOES NOT ENHANCE FUEL PRESURE. THEY ADJUST TIMING & DURATION. I WAS GETTING WITH EDGE ON 1, 13 MPG & 14.3 ON 5. I HAVE REMOVE IT AND INSTALLED A PREDITOR STAGE II BY DR. PERFORMANCE. TOWING STILL SUCKED (LARGELY DO TO MISS MATCHED INJECTORS) BUT FUEL ECONOMY WENT FROM THE 14.3 BEST EVER ENHANCED OR NOT TO 18.8. THESE ARE ALL HAND CALCUALTED, WITH MILE TRAVELD TO FUEL CONSUMPTION. NO RECALIBRATION OF MY SPEEDO AR ANYTHING, IT IS WHAT IT IS RIGHT.
