Cool Fuel Line

Hello everyone, I had a fuel leak the other day and from reading the HELP Section on here, it appears to be the same issue as many others (#4 Fuel Line). My question is....is this covered under Cummins Warranty or is it something i'll have to pay for out of pocket? My truck is an 06' Ram 3500 SRW 2WD QC/SB. I also noticed i have an oil leak that appears to be coming from the head gasket. Has anyone else ever had these problems. Thanks, bigg-p

#4 fuel line coming loose is a known issue. The little screws on the blue clips rattle loose which then lets the fuel line vibrate enough to break or come lose. Take a wrench and a little loctite to the screw in the blue clip.

Thanks Shorts, but the fuel line has already broken. I was wondering if this is covered under warranty or do i soak up the expense.

How many miles? It may be covered on the Cummins warranty. (I'm not sure)

it has 46,--- miles on it. The Engine should be covered under warranty, but not sure if the fuel system is covered under it or not.

Me neither... call the dealer.

IIRC, the lines are not that bad, under a hundred bucks...

Should be covered under the 100K warranty, includes fuel system.

For the price of a line though, I would probably change it myself to keep a possible hack mechanic from touching it. I think they are only 40ish bucks, and you should keep a spare for on the road emergencies.

Mine was not; cost me three hundred dollars to have it fixed. The part was around eighty dollars. They told me it was not part of the engine. I told them it is mounted from the common rail to the injector. How can that not be part of the engine? It is a part that should not ever break unless there is a design flaw in it. Not covered under the warranty is what he kept saying.

Thanks OOPS. I called the dealer yesterday and they told me that they would have to get it in the shop first, diagnose the problem first and then determine if its covered or not. He also told me he hasn't heard of this happening before. So I ask him about the price of the fuel line and he transfers me to the parts dept. where I receive an answering service. NICE....RIGHT! I also read on this on another forum that you can buy the part directly from Cummins for around $25. Gonna check on that today.

bigg, that is exactly why I wouldn't let them touch it.

Enough of the #4 Injector lines have broken that they were on backorder for a bit. Whenever a person makes a stupid statement like that, I try and stay away......

Man I am glad mine is way, way past warranty, I would be in prison for smacking some Service Adviser...........

I understand that patdaly. With the low cost of the fuel line and the ability of putting it on myself, i think i'll go that route and do it myself.

When it was obvious that the #4 line was becoming a problem to many people, I got one from Cummins, it was around $25, I carry it in my tool box just in case. My line didn't break, just have one as a spare. My clamps were all tight on both the line clamps and the manifold mounts.

I did check with my local dealership to see if it was covered under my warranty and they told me it was covered under the 100K engine warranty, but I figured for $25 I'd just get one and deal with it myself.
