Fuel leaking from Banjo bolt.......

I have a fuel leak at the banjo bolt on top of the fuel rail. If I replace the two banjo gaskets will I have a hard time getting the truck started?

It may crank a little long but then it should fire right up. Are you sure it's the bolt? I thought mine was leaking and it wound up being the Fuel pressure sensor that screws in right next to it.

Yeah, what he said. Expect it to turn over a few more times than normal, then stutter for a second or two, but it will fire and be fine. I have gotten air in the lines plenty and it has always worked its way out quickly.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the banjo bolt. I hope it's just the gasket and not the line breaking!! When I rub my finger on the banjo it has wet fuel on it so that's why I think that's it. Do I need to torque the bolt down or just get it tight?

I wouldn't get too tuff with it. It is a fairly wimpy hollow bolt and will break off easily. You have the same banjos on your injection pump and I have seen several people break them off in the pump when replacing it with a tapped version for a pressure gauge. The torque specs are very light. The rubber washer gaskets do all the work. I don't have my service manual handy at the moment, but I would recommend looking up the specs and just re-torque it. If it still leaks, I would replace the washer gaskets. Geno's has them, BF-39351 - Individual Cummins Gasket (3935171): $1.00 each, here: http://www.genosgarage.com/CoastalDa...ID=593&CATID=1.....or get them from your dealer for $5 each. You will need 2 of them.

Thanks Brian. I checked the Svc Manual and it says 17 ft/lb. Now the next issue is do I try some used gaskets that I have left over from when I put Genos Banjos in the 98.5 CTD I used to have?!?! If I get them from Genos then I'll have to buy something else or I'll pay like $11.00 to ship the $2.00 order...

That's a no-brainer. Get them from Geno's and buy some other goodies to justify the order.

I have reused them before also, even when they were a little chewed up and I didn't have new ones. Never had a problem leaking. Good luck.
