I have a 2005 dodge 2500 extra cab long bed with a manual tranny. The motor is the 5.9 turbo diesel. I started having problems with it just starting. It would turn over and over and nothing happened. Then winter came on and it was plugged in to stay warm. It seemed to start a little easier. As the spring came it then refused to start unless it got a shot of ether. I checked the code and got p088 fuel rail pressure to high and p0251 fuel injector pump control A

Dodge replaced the FCA (ouch) and told me they think the ECU is bad and could replace it for only $3000.00
Now the motor sounds terrible, no power at all, can't get the turbo to activate and milage is way down.

Can you tell me is the obdIi telling me the pump is bad or the ECU that controls the pump is bad?????? Is there a shade tree mechanic way to check the pump to see if it's working????? Thanks in advance Randy

 

Based on the codes, I'd at least try to troubleshoot the issue a little bit further. I've attached the diagnostic procedures for both codes. If you don't have a scan tool, you could at least troubleshoot with a test light and multimeter using the procedures for P0251 (step 1 is the same as step 2 for the P0088).
