I know about the grid heating the fuel at start up, but can anyone tell me if the grid comes on after that in colder weather. I have mine disconnected due to another problem that I'm trying to save up some money for. I would like to know if that may affect performance running in colder weather without the grid connected & working.

1st the grid heater does not heat the fuel , it heats the air in the intake to help the fuel ignite , so much verys from yr - yr , but most the heater grid will cycle on for some moments while the eng is below a specific RPM & temp.
It may be hard to start at low temps , but once it starts and the RPMs come off idle , they no longer come on and should not effect running , but if you already have some problems its hard to say what your going to run into ,
What are your other problems ?

 

This is what Dodge tells me. "Supply to one of the injectors is leaking, fills the rail, throws a code for too high fuel pressure & will not let engine start." Have to give it a shot of starting fluid each time to start. Dodge wants the truck for 2 days to diagnose & fix @ $85.00/hr. plus parts. Right now, I can't have the truck down for 2 days. SO, I have the fuel heater grid disconnected to avoid any engine damage using the starting fluid. Last trip the temps were down to 25 deg and the truck was running really crappy with poor fuel mileage - same fuel as when started the trip. Get back to PA, temps are up to 48 deg. and fuel mileage starts picking up and truck starts running better.
Thanks for correcting me about what the grid actually heats - I just woke up a little bit ago and the brain is still catching up.

 

Haven't got into the comin rail yet , but a couple things occure to me , 1st is maybe dirty injectors [ run a good injector cleaner - stanidyne - or high % b20 biodiesel ] next the injectors on your truck are controlled electrically , computer putting out wrong pulse with for some reason , or bad injector ,
How many miles on truck ?
I would not drive much with this problem , the extra fuel can do a # of issues , fuel washing oil out of cylinders , deluting oil , ect. , more exspensive fix's in the long run .
