Fuel Filter System

Since I can't spend $800 on a FASS system and have a perfectly good in-tank lift pump, can anyone give me any draw backs to just simply buying and installing the filter system linked below?

Good choice. I've got their cylinder head 2-micron unit.
If you don't already, use a Baldwin PF7977 5 micron drop in in your stock filter.
The Mopar one is 7 micron.

If just an auxiliary fuel filter would fill you needs, here's an inexpensive alternative. Fuel filter base 24770-- $22.30, fleetfiler.com. Fuel filter 2 micron, Donaldson P551313-- $7.16, ryderfleetproducts.com. To install, cut 3/8" stainless steel fuel line to length near trans. Buy two 1/2" male pipe thread to 3/8" tubing compression fittings from a hardware store. Screw filter base to frame and install fuel line. I did this on my last two trucks and it worked quite well. If a water separator is wanted use a short 1/2" nipple to connect the filter bases together.

Why would I need a separate F/W separator if I already have the stock bowl? Kind of confused why people add the F/W separator on top of the 2 micron filter when they already have one.

My F/W separator is a Wix 33439 rated at 14 micron and is mounted before my 2 micron filter. I use it for dual filtration. This may be overkill, but it works for me. Also, one of the filters in your posted picture is a water separator, as evidenced by the drain valve.

Correct. Thinking about getting ride of the F/W separator and just going with the single 2 micron.

I read about ever body worried about a water separator, If you are worried about water in fuel line, install a water drain in the bottom of your fuel tank. stop the water in fuel line before it gets that far, hence tank drain;;;
