Fuel filter change - why is the filter black?
Re:Fuel filter change - why is the filter black?
I do mine every 10K.
Every other oil change.
Easier to remember that way.
Filters are cheap insurance (if you get them from Cummins or Genos, NOT from the Dealer)

Re:Fuel filter change - why is the filter black?
I changed mine at 15K, and noticed a deffinite difference in the performance of the truck after I changed it. Prior to the swap, the truck was a little hesitant and sluggish. So consiquently I now plan to change it at no more than 10K. Filters are deffinitly cheap insurance!!!

Its also a good idea to test your local fuel sources, and find a clean source. The old myth of finding a high volume truck stop and getting clean fuel is just that
, a myth. I can easily prove this with some fuel test reports. I highly urge people to test their local stations and find a clean source. Consider this - I personally tested my local amoco high volume truck stop and my local texaco station(low-medium diesel traffic). The amoco was surprisingly filthy, with 23 million particles of dirt per gallon, compared to the texaco's 3 million, the amoco being nearly 8x as dirty. You guys can do the math, but consider how much more the amoco's fuel will clog your filter, and wear on your high pressure injection equipment. I'm in no way affiliated with this company etc, just have been a happy customer for a while. They sell devlac 1 and fuel/oil analysis kits. The fuel test kits are $50, and you do it in a similar manner to the oil analysis kits, just fill the little thing and mail it off. I'll be happy to email anyone copies of the fuel analyses, just email or pm me. www.avlube.com
