I recently had my '03 Ram 2500 in for the two recent recalls on the auto tranny so I thought I would have the dealer go ahead and change the fuel filter while they had the truck on the rack. I completely agree! When I had my first oil change (400 miles, 4 days old
), I noticed the "menu" in the service department had a price for changing the fuel filter of over $200 
. It was at that point I decided that doing my own maintenance will significantly lower my cost of ownership.The Boss Hog

$200? Now you have me curious. My oil gets changed Monday - - I will have to see what they charge - - I just changed mine myself yesterday. 11,000 miles on it and it really wasn't very dirty. Now, the Scotty Coooooool Air filter - - now that was disgusting - - loaded with dang love bugs. Hate those things. Cleaned and re-oiled that monster. Maybe it will get better mileage now - - dropped down to 17.1 in town. Not good.

My fuel mileage accually goes up when my filter gets dirty ----new filter 14.5 mpg ----- old filter (14,000) 17.5 mpg what a diffrence I dont really notice any diffrence when it starts to plug untill it starts missing then I know its time

I remember that thread - - I was thinking how thankful I was my dealer was treating me decent. They have stuck with me thru all this shuddering stuff, chatter in the tranny, good service, very polite - - all in all, quite satisfied. Ghost goes in Monday for oil, filter, new marker light, rotate and balance wheels. Getting ready for the long trip. Gotta get out of this heat. Come on with - - going to have fun. Catch some salmon, trout, pet some whales, check out some icebergs, outrun a 50' tide. That should be interesting after our huge Florida tides - - all of 1.5'.
